next stop Long Beach, WA

We met up with Danny and Marilyn (but that's Carol) at a 1000 Trails in Long Beach, WA- right on the coast. We had a great time, including a fishing fiasco, great meals and clam chowder, but it was overcast and dreary the whole time. Still, it was really fun..............and a lot of pinochle!!

Now I've been swearing off buying any more lumber for my lathe work and been doing a good job of it.............but I met this guy who had wonderful quilted maple. I bought a few hundred dollars worth of plate and platter stock, much thicker pieces for hollow forms, some pieces of burl and two matchbook pieces for a new dining room table.............if it's big enough. Really a great deal, wonderful quilting and I'm excited!!!

next stop Portland

Our first real stop was in Vancouver, WA (next to Portland, OR) to visit our good friends Harold & Maureen. They are freshly in from a decade on Hawaii..............."island fever", I guess.

They took us out on the Columbia River for some great views. Here we're at the Columbia River Overlook- dud!!

Next we were off to some wonderful waterfall views.........

Here we are at a sturgeon fish hatchery

look closely, that's a ten (10) foot sturgeon!!!

and plenty of salmon.....................

But the highlight was just visiting with them.............

off to the Washington coast

First stop.........Mt. Shasta- and it was beautiful!!

Robbie's wedding and Angela and Romolo's olive oil tasting at Sculptura

Robbie and Diane during their wedding.  They look like, and are, a perfect couple.

Notice the maple bread plate and olive oil dishes.............my gift to them for a wonderful dinner.

fun in Napa

Carol and I instructed everyone on making Okonomiyaki Pancakes (Japanese). These included cabbage, pork, shrimp and special sauces.
Here Fred is overseeing Marilyn's "flipping" style............

We took the Napa Wine Train for a special ride and dinner.
Always fun.................

And just like at the Hudson River Valley.............we had dinner at the CIA (Culinary Institute of America)   at Greystone. I parlayed an early 70's Christian Brothers Pinot for our lunch!!!

As usual, the "home cooked" meals were wonderful.

Here's Billie at our pasttime........1000 pc. puzzles.........only on vacation.....

after Brad's wedding

We had about 20 family members in for dinner and...........of course............Pinochle!!!!

San Diego Fair

Design in Wood

Great pieces and wonderful ideas.

I was fortunate  enough to receive an Honorable Mention with "I'll have a Slice". I am truly honored due to the stiff competition of this fair. It is a 50 piece rose ply lamination and about 15" in diameter.
It has sold  to a good home.

Great designs and the illusion of texture........

Annual Provo Woodturners Symposium

We started the symposium with our traditional San Diego Woodturners gathering/ picnic at a local park.

Here's Mike J., one of our local and prefessional turners, during a demonstration.

Ideas and so much talent.............

Infusing woodturning with metal/ pewter..........

What a beautiful location for a symposium.... even in the rain.
