a walk to the beach
This morning Gary was off golfing at the Princeville course and Mel, Kay, Carol and I walked to the Princeville Hotel (which was bought out and is being renovated- supposedly to be the #1 hotel in the world) and down to the beach on Hanalei Bay. It was drop dead beautiful!!!

kauai bound.......
After a nice flight from LAX to LIH by way of HNL, we stopped at Hamura's local saimin (Hawaiian noodles).

Then we drove up to Princeville and our rental condo at "The Cliffs". We're just short of Hanalei Bay. Its really nice.

The next day we drove to the end of the road- Ke'e Beach and checked out the sights between.
Across the road from Ke'e beach was a wet cave.

We ate in Hanalei at a converted old school house- rather unique.

Next we walked the beach at Hanalie Bay.
The mountains around were beautiful...........

great waves for the surfers,
and a Hawaiian girl paddle boarding.
A Honu (turtle) surfaced for us.

The next day we drove to Kilauea Lighthouse and national bird sanctuary- for the red footed boobie.
Here the state bird/ goose a Nene' is posing for us.

That night we went to a slack key Hawaiian guitar concert by Doug and Sandy McMaster- it was very informative and really good.

back to Sam Maloof's
Philip and Matt Mouthrop were doing a wood turning exhibit at the Maloof Foundation. It was a kickoff for their show at the del Mano Gallery in LA.
They had some beautiful vessels on display.
Our neighbors, Duane and Joan (they went to China with us) bought a piece from Matt.
Here they are standing in from of the piece they bought.
Its a beautiful ash leaf maple (box elder) vessel- not bad for 2K+!!!
Philip (left), Sam (right) and Matt are having a discussion with Kevin Wallace, the author of their book, Moulthrop: A Legacy in Wood.
Sam is sitting in front of a walnut table he sold for 100K, then there was 30k each for 10 chairs- not bad!! and it was for a residence- trickle down??
Sam's explaining some of his collection........
