off to Mt. Hood

We got up early this morning to take the steam train to Mr. Hood............but they were closed and only delivering freight on Monday. So..........we went out for breakfast at the recommendation of the cutie at the train station and had a wonderful dungeness crab and avocado omelet......
While there, we had a nice conversation with a retired couple from Manheim, PA.....

After a stop at a local art gallery, where Carol picked up some glass tear drop earrings, we were told to drive up to Mt. Hood (also as recommended by Harold & Maureen) and we wouldn't be disappointed. So off we went...........

The lodge, Timberline Lodge, was made in the 1930s by workers of the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corp) and it was huge, craftsman style and wonderful.

with a lot of art and carvings.

We had a great lunch there......

and people were still skiing up the lifts on the snow fields..........now that's a lot of snow for August!!!

After such a great day, we walked our campgrounds overlooking the Columbia River.
