on the Donau (River Danube)

Sept. 5, 2006 This morning we went through the Gabcikovo Lock, the first lock of our trip- actually we'll be going through 60+ locks as we go from the Danube though a series of canals and on to the River Rhine.
Our first stop was at Bratislava, Slovakia and it is my favorite city along with Prague. It is a college\university town with 100K students in a total population of 450K. The average age is only 35. We had the greatest guide, Elisha, she will be a physician in three more years.
Notice the one picture showing a wall found within a wall.
Paul and I toured some more of the city and enjoyed their local bier (beer) at a street cafe as we were people watching.
They have these great statues that "people watch" and have a laser light show at night that bounces off mirrors on the building walls and go down the streets and into special reflection pods.
That night we listened to a female Slovakian musical group called "Aphrodite". They consisted of five college students who played piano, flute and strings and were dressed in evening wear to get attention- they got mine!!
